Sealed prep for the play in and qualifier on MTGA
Hello readers! Andy here with a new article about magic gathering.
Today will be a spicy one, we are talking about LIMITED and oh men, i love the format.
First, let’s see why we should be looking at sealed and draft formats.
On this weekend ( aside from the last championship ) there is the first “ play in “ event for the new competitive scene, and the format for this ( and for the 2nd one next week) is sealed like the main qualifier weekend (sealed+draft) on may 28
As you see, if you play Magic arena you are into these events and you need to crack packs.
Also, last weekend we had the Arena open( sealed and draft ) and it was a perfect opportunity to test , in a competitive environment , what we should be doing on the upcoming events.
So let me share with you my thoughts on the format and what happened on the arena open.
On the week prior to this event, i had lots of sealed to prepare correctly for what was coming, and on saturday i opened my stream with enough money to make 2 attempts on the Arena open, an event i always suggest to play and more so if the format is sealed ( in which you need no deck or format preparations at all ) .
You can still watch it full here( is on english ) : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1483858065
First, i opened my packs and this came
Sadly i founf out it was super hard to build,, had the “lord xander” bomb and enought mana fixing to do crazy things but as we will learn later, the less colors, the better.
2-3 was the final record after 3 different builds, with the final one being a 5 color fantasy that didn’t work at all.
Well, magic is still magic, but after a small break ( and a visit from the mail man who brought me my new phone ) I opened my next 6 packs.
As you can see, the deck starts with one of the most broken cards there is, Brokers Ascendancy.
This single card was enough reason for me to add green to a solid UW deck( this is something that happens mostly on draft) and men, the matches where unreal
I started 4-0, lost, and won 2 more to a 6-1 position and …it all started to crumb.
Sadly arena didn’t help with the draws and in the final game this happened;

Nothing to do with more than 10 lands drawn almost in a row and a wrath from my opponent.
6/3 were the final results and after 8 hours of stream, I ended my tryus of the open for the time being.
It wasn’t the results I was looking for, but the test was a success. I finally got what I needed to understand the format, its strengths and faults and how to prepare myself more for the upcoming events.
Luckily , I’m already qualified for the “ qualifier weekend” on May 28 so no play-in event for me , but the qualifier has a draft portion so I shifted to draft on the next few days .
And men, it was super nice.
I started with a quick draft ( mostly to have my time in each pick ) and knowing that UW, GW, BANT ( brokers ) are the most solid option, also RG or RB are solid
2 deck colors are a solid option with a splash of a 3rd if needed .
You can still watch the picks here : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1486886495
This was what ended up being a super powerful deck, 7-1 was the record and the games were hyper quick.
Of course, Rabble Rousing is such a powerful card, and the reason to splash white on a solid red green build.
with all the hype , i entered a premier draft ( with a token from the mastery ) and build this one;
even so the last build was a jund, i started with a solid RB splash blue ( only fore the maestro charm and maestros diabolist )
and i got 4 wins .Then i shifted to this jund list, and netted 2 more wins until i found myself with a 6/3 record
overall i had good results with RED cards, mixing them with black or red could be a solid option on draft and, knowing that day 2 of the qualifier weekend is this format, i found myself with the confidence to overcome it
This is all for today, but i’m looking for this weekend’s championship to get some updated list in standard and historic, but mostly standard because we have a Great event coming up!!.
On may 28 there will be a GAtor Standard tournament and I will be casting the top 8 with my friend sandoiche, so i expect to see you all there!!!.
Don’t miss any of all the things happening this weekend and good luck to those playing the play in event.
If anything, you can reach me for questions and suggestions .
see ya next time!

Great article! This set is super fun to draft and play sealed.
As always Andy is super eloquent and explains everything in a very clear way.
Nice, Mega!
